Zen and the Art of Acknowledgment

Zen, like art, is a practice. One cannot talk about the philosophy of this practice. Instead you must learn from observation of the results of your own actions and inactions. You just have to do it.

Thank you is the simplest and most effective acknowledgment.

I was sad to realize that there are people who do not know the value they are in other people’s lives. Why are we withholding our acknowledgments of other people? Just say thank you if your feelings are still beyond words.

People are so starved for acknowledgment that they find it difficult to hear it too. You will see them turn away or look down. This is when they need a hug.

Remember to be kind to those who deserve it the least. They need it the most.

Acknowledgment shared is powerful if heartfelt. It is a gift of kindness foremost. But deeper yet are the rewards intrinsic in its practice.

Kindness is the acknowledgment that we are all human beings, or when dealing with other animals, that we are all valued beings on this planet.

The power of acknowledgment is self-evident. Practice it and you will receive its benefits. Practice is the only way to understand the Zen of acknowledgment.

Thank You
